Each piece is free-form layer built starting with a wood base, textured in a special mix of stucco and acrylic-latex paint. Other materials used to create this mixed-media art form may include plaster cloth, wire and/or paper armatures and natural desert woods. Vigas (rafters) are represented with pine wood and the ladders are made of wood dowels.

All pieces are equipped with hardware for easy hanging. The pieces are not as heavy as the appearance they have.
